THE CHICAGO PIKE INN & SPA- is situated in the quaint town of Coldwater, Michigan. This national award-winning 7,000 sq. ft. inn has 8 guestrooms, including the coach-house. The reformed colonial mansion with its wide veranda, massive Greek Revival columns, and stately cast iron lions at the entrance, is a neighborhood landmark. Built in 1903, the sunny yellow mansion treats guests to distinctive surroundings. The inn is located in a quiet, historical residential neighborhood offering its guests a feeling of elegance from the past and still enjoy the luxury, comfort and pleasures of today. It was carefully restored to preserve the sweeping cherry staircase, stained glass windows, parquet floors, gas and electric chandeliers and period furnishings to provide the true experience of a more gracious bygone era. The inn's location, Branch County, in South Central Michigan, offers many attractions. Nearby is Coldwater Lake with over 100 other lakes close by that offer fishing, and boating. Area attractions include classic cars, the Auburn Cord Museum and the historic WWII Museum. Those interested in two wheel activities can enjoy motorcycling or biking nearby. Guests can also catch a show at the Tibbits Opera House in Downtown Coldwater and their just a few miles away from the “Antique Capital of the World”, Allen, Michigan. Six local golf courses in the Greater Coldwater area will challenge the advanced golfer.
With antiques from the Victorian age, the inn has recreated in their common rooms the ambiance of the early 1900s. The Reception Room has a cherry double mantle fireplace with the original brown tile, Staffordshire dogs, lots of comfortable chairs, marble top smoking stand, leaded lamp signed by Bradley & Hubbard and a walnut sideboard. This room has a 10 foot ceiling with cherry paneling, beamed ceiling, original lighting fixtures and parquet floors covered by an Oriental rug in red, gold, blue and green to complement the furnishings.
The décor in the Dining Room includes cherry paneling, wide plate rails, and a built-in mirrored buffet. There is a large carved walnut table with seating for all guests. The dining chairs have an elaborately carved back with handmade needlepoint seats. Green and white wallpaper is accented by a rose trellis paper on the beamed ceiling.
The Library is a cozy room in which guests can enjoy a favorite book or sit back and relax and enjoy the restfulness of the inn. The woodwork and bookcases are painted white and highlighted by bright floral wallpaper in greens, mauves, wines and pinks. The room is appointed with a Victorian loveseat, marble top tables, Gone With The Wind lamp, antique chairs, cushioned window seat, marble fireplace and a luxurious tea table.
Each of the 8 large, elegantly decorated guestrooms features period décor and furnishings. All guestrooms have an attached private bath and four of the guestrooms are two room suites; one with a whirlpool tub. Two of these suites are in the adjacent coach-house. Although the inn is over 100 years old it offers many modern conveniences such as; air conditioning, wireless internet, cable television and DVD players.
The lower level innkeepers' quarters offers 2 bedrooms, one full bathroom, ample storage and a laundry room.
