The Hoke-Rhyne House, built in 1844, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as part of The Laboratory Historic District. Sitting on 7 acres overlooking the South Fork River, the house is the oldest of the three properties comprising the district. The district is bordered by 200 acres of conservancy land which creates a development buffer along the river.
The Laboratory Mill, a turn of the century Cotton Mill, has been renovated into a beautiful Wedding and Special Events Venue. Since it opened for business in August of 2013, the Mill has enjoyed almost a 100% booking rate and has enabled the development of another income property in the district. The D.E. Rhyne House opened as a Bed and Breakfast in 2014 to support the Mill’s overnight guests. It operates as the Peacock Hill Bed and Breakfast.
Since the opening of the Laboratory Mill, we have been approached several times regarding the use of the property for special events. The privacy and natural beauty of the property make it an ideal location for outdoor events and weddings. We have also been asked about weekly rentals of the entire property by families hosting events at the Mill.
