We have for sale our rare, stick-style Victorian home, built in 1881 for Captain Nathaniel Treat. It is located in the heart of picturesque Monroe Wisconsin, named as the thirteenth best town under 15,000 population out of 2,500 contenders and one of the two top small towns in the Midwest. During our 22 years here, this home has been meticulously restored to its former glory, while adding impressive energy efficiency. Heat and electricity now run less than 62 cents/sq. ft./yr (as of December 2023). This is equivalent to running both in a 1,300 sq. ft. home for just $67 per month. The second floor master bedroom (254 sq. ft.) has a new oak floor, en suite bathroom, marble fireplace and authentic, hand printed 1880s pattern wallpaper, one of three rooms so decorated. The four other large bedrooms include one en suite bath with Kohler fixtures, two new oak floors and two maple floors. The main bathroom includes an antique clawfoot tub with new reproduction brass hardware, Kohler sink and toilet, and custom solid cherry cabinetry and baseboards.

The basement has been finished to a very high level, and includes ceramic tile floors, a 2023 (up to 99% efficient) Lennox gas furnace, full height ceilings with full spectrum “sun” lighting, a large playroom, pantry, storage rooms, laundry, full bath with clawfoot tub, tool shop and a room large enough to accommodate an Endless Pool. This bright basement could serve as an owner's apartment for a bed-and-breakfast.

The exterior has Sherwin Williams’ premium grades of paint in eight Victorian colors and a 50 year warranted synthetic "slate" roof, solid copper eave troughs and down spouts, an in-ground, 36' heated pool with diving board and patio, a brand new restored side porch (2023) and a gracious wraparound porch overlooking a large corner lot with mature perennial gardens and trees. This house is full of surprises and wonderful details abound throughout.

Appraised by insurance 22 years ago for $1,200,000 (excluding the finished basement and all of the upgrades listed above) in recognition of the high quality of the finishes throughout, we are now offering our home for less than the cost per square foot of a cheaply constructed starter home.
